Hello I'm new here! Here are my picks.. I am very determined to win.. but then there's never a sure win. So Beware and I'd appreciate it if you give comments and suggestions. :D

PHOENIX -8: Portland is a let down. And the game they've been playin's bad. I feel they will go down again tomorrow after what OKC did to them last night. They were only able to shoot 2 3's the whole game AT HOME. So how can they play with the suns when they visit? o.O i'ma take the suns.

PHILADELPHIA +7: I know toronto's been hot at home but the sixers been hot as well. Sixers without AI, they're able to create offense for everyone. They have won 4-5 games straight. Toronto last played on sunday so i'm expecting they're gonna go cold tonight against the sixers, they can win the game but not more than 7 :D

ATLANTA -7: i'm sure you guys are familiar with the miami trend. W L W L W L and since they destroyed the rockets tonight, they're gonna lose the next game. Also, atlanta's been tough and atlanta would want to revenge their last game with mia where they lost. o.O

DETROIT -3.5: Sacramento is a total sucky team. They were just lucky last night with the knicks. and after that tough OT game, they're pretty tired. Detroit won at Milwaukee. Detroit can play pretty defense too, knowing sac is an offensive team. Stuckey, Gordon and Jerebko will do their thing tomorrow :)

CHARLOTTE - 2: Minnesotta got owned last night at philly. Charlotte, i believe can play like the sixers. they're a hustle team led by Gerald "THE BEAST" Wallace (got that from milkman, hehe) Also, with felton and chandler playing, well they can win this one.

ORLANDO -3.5: Chicago also a lucky team last night, beat the pacers at home. They will host the orlando tonight. Without Noah, the aching deng, what can they do to DW12? and VC? I trust VC he's been fantastic these past few games. 48 pts the other day with OKC. LOL he's gonna show his worth tonight again. :)

Picture perfect – CV's McConnell snaps up WPIAL 3-point shooting mark

By Eleanor Bailey The Almanac Sports Editor ebailey@thealmanac.net

Even at an earlier age, T.J. McConnell baffled audiences with his picture perfect shooting form.

About the age of 6 or 7, he gained the attention of his best friend's mother after an afternoon of swimming at the Dormont pool on Banksville Road.

"This mom told me 'I think there is something wrong with your son' because T.J. was walking into the pool posing," said McConnell's father, Tim. "From being around me and my camps, he learned as young child there's a proper form in order to be a great shooter."

"My dad pounded into my head the correct shooting form. 'You have to pretend you're posing for the picture.' Dad would always tell us that" said McConnell "So I just worked on it until it became second nature. I don't even think about it anymore."

Yet, his recent record gives basketball fans a snap shot of McConnell's push for perfection.

In a 101-64 victory over Keystone Oaks, McConnell shattered the WPIAL career 3-point record. Plus the Chartiers Valley senior smashed the single-game mark in school history. McConnell buried 10 shots from beyond the arc, giving him 304 career triples. That broke the district mark of 302 set, ironically by another Tim McConnell protégé and CV product--Mike Colbert.

"As a coach," said Tim McConnell, "I've had the pleasure to coach Mike Colbert and 10 years later my son comes along and breaks his record? Obviously, I am a proud coach, but I'm also lucky to be a proud father."

The young McConnell is proud of his achievement.

"The WPIAL record is a big accomplishment," he said. "I'm glad I have it, especially since the person who held it since 1998 was from my own school. For me to come in and pass that, means a lot."

McConnell is on the cusp of another meaningful mark. With his 36-point performance against the Golden Eagles, McConnell pulled to within 61 points of surpassing CV's all-time scoring record. With 618 points this winter, he stands at 1,962 for his career. Colbert holds the school record with 2,022 total points.

"Getting the school record would mean a lot," admitted McConnell.

However, a WPIAL championship would prove even more significant. McConnell has been close for three years, finishing as a runner-up his freshman season and as a Final Four participant the past two years.

"To be honest I never thought of having any records. Those do not come to my mind when I set goals. I would trade all the records in the world for a WPIAL title," he said.

McConnell would neither trade the hours of labor nor his teammates for any accolades.

As a freshman, he started his career as a 3-point specialists. In a limited role, he fired in 54 3-pointers. "That was all he did when he scored as a freshman," said his coach.

While he honed his long-range skills--making sure he made 500 shots, five days a week--McConnell has blossomed into an all-around player, who attracted the attention of Duquesne University. In November, he signed a national letter-of-intent accepting that Division I university's scholarship offer.

"T.J. knew that we would not rely as much on him as a 3-point shooter this season because we would use him as a point guard and we needed him to drive and pull up," said Coach McConnell.

"So he didn't do as much shooting but he worked on his pull-up game. His play this year is a testament to how he has evolved into a complete player."

As a team captain as well, McConnell has developed into a leader. He has his Colts posed to clinch an undefeated section title. The Colts are ___ overall.

Whatever it takes is his attitude to help the Colts achieve their goals.

"I prefer a 3-pointer over any shot," he said. "It fires me up and the team as well."

McConnell is fired up most about his teammates. Without them, their would be no records.

"I'm pretty excited about the record and it's a big accomplishment for me but I could not do this without my teammates. I cannot say enough about them. They do a great job of getting me the ball. All the credit goes to my team. I have the best teammates around. We have one of the most unselfish teams in the WPIAL," he said.

And, one of the best in the state. The Colts are ranked No. 4 in Class AAA.

"There's always room for improvement," said McConnell. "We are just focusing on the next game though. But sure, I'd take a state championship over a WPIAL title any day."
