AUTO ALMANAC - Owen Sound Sun Times Posted: 01 Oct 2009 05:09 AM PDT Posted By WHEELBASE COMMUNICATIONSPosted 3 hours ago2010 Acura ZDX: Honda's premium division refers to this vehicle as a four-door sports coupe and reinforces that concept by attempting to disguise the rear door handles to make the ZDX appear to have just two doors. Along with all-wheel-drive, the ZDX comes standard with a panoramic roof, power hatchback, a leather interior and a premium audio system. A 300-hp 3.7-litre V6 that's used in other Acura models is also standard. The ZDX will be available in early 2010. - In 1934, American Peter de Paolo piloted the first Grand Prix car to feature four-wheel-drive at a race in Tripoli, Libya. - Prior to the introduction of fog lamps in 1928, automobiles could be fitted with yellow celluloid discs that attached to the headlights. 1951 Crosley two-door sedan, not sold, 18 bids, highest bid $7,100 US: Appliance manufacturer Crosley also built inexpensive sub-compact cars from 1939-52. The line-up eventually included sedans, station wagons, convertibles, panel vans and a cute little roadster called the Hot Shot. These cars were originally powered by air-cooled twin-cylinder engines, but the company eventually switched to water-cooled four-cylinder powerplants. The seller's perfectly restored car has only 19,000 documented miles (30,000 km), but it failed to tempt bidders to meet its $12,800 US reserve price. Visit www.ebaymotors.com. Challenger rear valence, www.willpak.com, 888-945-5725: Perhaps best known for its window treatments and coverings such as louvers, Willpak Industries, based in Oakville, Ont., is also getting into a new cover for the Dodge Challenger's rear taillights, which breaks up that one long piece into two shorter ones. According to the company, the product better emulates the original 1970s car for a more classic appearance. The three-piece kit covers the stock tail panel without tools. A contact at Willpack suggested that the product could be about a month away from production. EBAY WATCH PARTS BIN DRAWING BOARD IT'S HISTORY Advertisement |
Enjoy life; galactic alignment predicted for 2012 - Bemidji Pioneer Posted: 01 Oct 2009 05:30 AM PDT There will be an unprecedented galactic alignment on Dec. 21, 2012. This type of celestial event only occurs once every 26,000 years. Amazingly this was predicted by Mayans with startling accuracy. The Book of Chalam Balam is the most sacred book the Mayans have. It was written by the high Mayan Priest Chalam Balam, who lived and predicted many of today's events 26,000 years ago. Science has now confirmed what he has predicted millennia before most others. The Mayans created the most sophisticated calendar to date: more accurate than the one we use today. The calendar is actually three in one. They utilized the movement of the sun, moon, stars and seasons to organize everything from weddings to war using their almanac. They predicted some of today's events with an accuracy that startles many scientists. In the year 2012, there will be an alignment of all planets with the sun and the center of the galaxy. This may not seem like it might be that big of a deal except for the fact that at the center of the galaxy is a super-massive black hole. With what research I have in the sciences and spirituality, I only can conclude that there is going to be a problem with communications. This will largely be due to the fact that gravity will be out of its usual order during the galactic alignment. Many governments and militaries have been preparing for an upcoming global disaster. There have even been underground bunkers built in every continent on the planet. The bunkers are an experiment to ensure that the end is only the beginning even though no one knows exactly what is going to take place at the time of the alignment. Whether or not anyone agrees with any other sacred text's predictions, one cannot argue with scientific observation. Some believe that fossils are sometimes dated between 6,000 years and 150 million years old. But with facts such as the ones presented to me and many others are sometimes quite alarming. The bottom line of this letter is to inform and state that life is to be enjoyed as much as possible. The universe is a violent place that may or may not have an all benevolent Creator. There are many places to find studies on this topic, so don't just take my word for it. Look for yourself. Andrew M. Grage Bemidji

October: Trick or Treat for the Markets - CNBC Posted: 01 Oct 2009 04:12 AM PDT Investors often may have negative perceptions of October and the markets. After all, the crashes of 1929 and 1987 both occurred in October. In more recent years, the Dow [.DJIA Loading... () ![]() In fact, the Dow's top three (and five out of the top ten) 1-day percentage declines for the Dow Industrials have all happened in October. However, despite those market-shattering events, October (on average) surprisingly isn't that bad of a month historically for the markets. Of the past eleven Octobers, the Dow has fallen for the month just three times (2004, 2005, and 2008). Furthermore, according to the Stock Trader's Almanac, while October is only the seventh best month of the year for the Dow, the index has been up 59% of the time and has posted an (albeit small) average gain of 0.6% since 1950. The authors also note that gains in October have also "turned the tide" in eleven bear markets that have occurred since World War II (1946, 1957, 1960, 1962, 1966, 1974, 1987, 1990, 1998, 2001, and 2002). It's worth noting that if the S&P 500 can muster up another gain this October, it would be up 8 straight months, a feat that has only happened three other times since 1984. Overall October Stats
